Here are 2 members cars, both Gt Coupes, both out of england, but both fairly differant. The owner of the black 86 has gone for the traditional "Paddy spec" where as the owner of the white 85 has gone for the "jap spec" using a fair few jap aftermarket parts. Just like the owners of the red & white arched cams http://www.ae86irl.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4804 these are both of the bhoys first cams ditching a corsa gsi & golf gti respectively.

So at the end of the day, it comes down to preference, to keep the coupe the way they were when most of us were growing up or blend it in with the drift machines of japan.
I know the one i'd have.

I think their both mint, Garys cam is sweet as a nut and micheals is sweet too, loads gone into that car.
Personally i prefer Jap cams, paddy/UK cams are nice and I can appreciate them but they are so fuckin predictable, superlights, janspeed, billies/konis, cibies. Whereas Jap cams are different everytime, kits, wheels, suspension, engines, cages, seats, paint schemes, spoilers, gauges, exhausts, arches...th list goes on. Just my view.

well i have a '84 jap and i'm going uk with it, but keeping the half cage and bucket seat, and the suspension, i have '86 black bumpers, janspeed, sideskirts, uk mirrors, taillights, sideskirts, just need to get thems all on over the holidays. i have her sittin on superlites, i took the longchamps off her, i'm going to keep all the jap running gear, trd quickshift, trd diff, hks filter, trd cams etc. i have always admired the uk coupes and thought i'd buy a jap and turn her into a uk

has to be paddy spec, now if that white one was left to paddy spec she'd be class, pre-facelift grille back on here, unpainted bumpers, superlites and it'd be my ideal cam.

I like both very much, but my problem is, we simply DO NOT have the roads here to enjoy a good jap AE86. they have to be low, stiff, streched tyres which is a recipie for disaster here. thats why i have a paddy spec, i drive it every day to work and stuff, and its comfy. if i was getting a jap ae86 it would have to be a trueno tho

Dont see the point of this to be honest? Is it just ment as a feature or as a question? Neither cam is my cup of tea but they both look clean and tidy. White cam isnt exactly "jap" in fairness. My thought are the same as Gormans above.
@Mark: I use mine as an everyday car aswell. Depends where you live I suppose. Mines mostly city and main road driving though. Its pretty low, stiff and tyres come out past the arches. Wouldnt call it comfortable or anything but I'm used to it now and dont even notice it. I'm happy enough to put up with it to be able to have the car i want.

Yeah its not so bad outside dublin, but i used to drive my kp everyday, and the speed ramps would make you want to sell the car, its an absoloute joke. 3kms over every speed ramp, what a load of cock. my twincam has TRD dampers and TRD springs no coilover or anything, and low and stiff but fine. the kp tho is rediculous.
anyway, it was just a small point why its not as enjoyable here as it would be in japan, ive been in a stupidly low ae86 in japan, infact its that mad gold one that a member has here, and it was as smooth as a S500 merc on the japanese roads, i bet the owner now doesnt think so lol

That white cam is some straight car, those wheels dont do anything for it in my opinion. Notice in the last 2 pics the original front bumper brackets still on the white car. I know what you're sayin fatman but to me 'jap-spec' isnt just jap wheels, jap rear lights and jap exhaust on a gt coupe if you know what I mean. its like sayin if you put trd parts on a coupe does that make it jap spec? but trd parts are for all cams. not havin a go at your feature but ideally we should put a burgundy/s/o/g on superlights/janspeed etc. beside a proper jap cam and then you can compare. but you've so many different things like lads with japs made to look uk, standard/mild japs, full jap drift cars, uk rally cars, and then theres mine...
here we see a traditional paddy spec beside a paddy spec with a few jap bits on. not knockin anyones car or anything, just talking :)
and where do you draw the line, is puttin a set of jap wheels only on a uk make it jap spec? wheres the line?
Discuss

how i'd see it is the mods on the black car (konis, supers & janspeed) are all rally mods which are what make the paddy spec a paddy spec. the mods on the white are drift mods (jap exhaust, advans) coupled with the jap styling (redlines, nardi wheel) have in my eyes pushed it into jap spec in the same way you can take a japper and make it uk spec or paddy spec.
example.....
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q156/fatman359/001.jpg
still a japper, full paddy spec.
the above i'd call a "paddy spec" jap levin
where as i'd call the white 85 a "jap spec" uk coupe

What you say is True in the above Fatman,
I just dont understand the "Paddy Spec" heads with Jap Levins & even Truenos, if ya want a gt coupe, buy one,,simple Its soooooo obviously a "levin" even though it has the paddy jazzzzz.
BUT, I just cant understand the Irish full Stop. Down on everything, unless the phrase "Just in From England, Pockets, Diff 100%" appears alongside it & then it worth a packet, even thought is more than likely a shitter that has been stiched together more than once.

youve just answered your own question
what if someone wants the irish style but doesnt want a filler ridden rot box thats about 5 cars welded into one?
who cares what country its made in?
what makes it a levin? a 7 euro sticker on the boot

give me a "paddy spec" japper any day. clean underneath, power steering, a/c. supers, janspeed (the soundtrack from going to my first rally) burgandy, s/o/g, all white. originality doesn't worry me.

thats a fairly obvious comparison.
i'm comparing the choice of mods and displaying both cars side by side, asking who'd choose what.
it's not like the owner of the 85 is passing it of as a jap cause he's not.
one look at the chassis number would tell it's a uk car.
if you tried to do a feature with the 2 cars pictured you'd have a subtle spec list for the coupe and about 3 posts full of spec for the trueno.
it would not work.
so where does my coupe fit in lol,

paddy defo,,but a cam is a cam i love them all..dont no how any one can like paddys and hate japs or vise versa..they were all built in japan they are all toyota,,the paddy style is just classier lookin when done rite and on a mint cam..but the japs wound be a more sensible option obviously because theirs not much rust or rot and you get all the electricts and power stearing,,plus you can go wild with kits and the like,,id still pick a mint paddy do!!

I agree with Dane.. A cam is a cam an people shouldn't run down a uk over a jap or vice versa.. Ideally i'll have one of each soon...:nod:

Know what ya mean. Lads this isnt a thread about whether you prefer jap or paddy cams!! it was a feature on a jap styled AE86 and a paddy styled AE86. Thats it. Someone has suddenly resurrected the thread and completely missed the point:doh:
